I love this! It really reminds me of Laura McEnaney's book Civil Defense Begins at Home. Frank, I know you collect a lot of the CD paraphernalia, do you happen to have one of the OCDM era window cards/stickers for housewives that say "This Home is Prepared for Emergency"? I was just curious. I've always wanted to see an original one of those.
If you have a North Carolina civil defense-related story, I would love to interview you and share your story with others as part of my PhD research. If you have any old civil defense documents, photographs, and equipment and are willing to share, I would love to make a copy of or see your collection. The North Carolina Archives have only a small portion of the NCCD story. As we confront the potential for new man-made and natural disasters, there is plenty we can learn from those who came before us.

ReplyDeleteActually, I believe I do. I have the entire information folder about that program. I'll post some of it up this month or next :)
